Official-data research tools
Free vehicle tools, with the sources published beside the answer
Not every automotive number belongs in a calculator. We ship only tools backed by official NHTSA and EPA records, verified model data, or an explicit formula—never scraped market estimates presented as fact.

How we decide what becomes a tool
A tool earns a public URL only when it answers a concrete user job and has a traceable basis: NHTSA vPIC for identity, the NHTSA Recall API for active safety actions, EPA certification for fuel economy, and the official Safercar CSV for crash ratings. When an answer cannot be supported directly, the tool shows the formula and limitations instead of pretending to be a valuation service.
This keeps broad discovery data from polluting search results. Imported models remain noindex until their engines, generation and source evidence are complete, so these tools rank only around content that can stand audit.
Developer access
The same verified data is available as JSON for research, plugins and LLM agents. Responses are compact, documented and version-safe. Production deployments should keep a User-Agent and cache responses.

Tool & data questions
Are these tools free?
Yes. The VIN decoder, recall check, efficiency rankings and calculators are free to use with no account. They are funded by clearly separated advertising.
Where does the data come from?
Vehicle identity comes from the NHTSA vPIC registry, recalls from the NHTSA Recall API, fuel economy from EPA fueleconomy.gov records, and crash ratings from the official NHTSA Safercar_data.csv.
Why do some tools show fewer models than other websites?
We deliberately surface verified, sourced records instead of inflating coverage with placeholders. Broad registry discoveries stay outside rankings until editorially verified and source-backed.
