About Us
About Car Data Index, our mission, data sources and editorial standards for free vehicle specifications and VIN data.
Our mission
Car Data Index is a free, independent vehicle-data reference. Our goal is simple: make accurate car specifications, engines, performance, fuel economy, dimensions and drivetrains, freely accessible to every driver, buyer and enthusiast, without accounts, paywalls or tracking walls.
What we publish
- Specifications, power, torque, 0–100 km/h, top speed, MPG, CO?, weight and dimensions for every trim we index
- Model histories, generation-by-generation breakdowns with chassis codes and production years
- A free VIN decoder, instant 17-character VIN decoding powered by official public vehicle databases
- Editorial guides, plain-English explanations of automotive technology, written to be genuinely useful
Our data sources
Specifications are compiled from manufacturer data sheets, type-approval documentation and official public registries, including the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) vehicle databases and EPA fuel-economy records. Every figure is cross-checked before publication, but specifications can vary by market, always confirm critical data against your vehicle's own documentation.
Editorial independence
Car Data Index is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any vehicle manufacturer. All trademarks and model names belong to their respective owners and are used solely to identify the vehicles described. Our editors select topics and conclusions independently.
